Be an Esther

      Be an Esther.

After all, that is the title of this blog. But what does that mean? How do we live our lives like an Esther?
Consider this. In the story of Esther, we are introduced to a teenage girl (we assume her age), who lives with her uncle because we assume her parents have died. The king of Persia, meanwhile, has basically cast away his previous wife for the minor act of refusing to be shown off by her husband. He wants a new wife, and when all the virgins in the kingdom appear at his palace in true Cinderella-story fashion, Esther is the one who catches his eye. Long story short, she saves her Jewish people and gets the guy, while foiling a villainous plot.
So why use Esther as a role model for Christian women?
In this series, I will talk about this in more detail. We will cover women's lib back in Bible times, beauty, courage, and trusting in God's guidance. For today, I want to leave you with a verse to ponder.

For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
---Esther 4:14

See, Esther was in a tough situation. She either went to the king wihout his permission, and could possibly be put to death, and explained what the villain of this story (aka Haman) was going to do to her people. Or, she did nothing and her people would die.
      What's a girl to do?
In this verse, her uncle Mordecai reminds her that she could have married the king of Persia at the time she did at the right time. This reminds us that whatever happens in our lives happens for a reason. We are not an accident. We were made for a purpose.
      So, why be an Esther?
      Why not?
